Man arrested in ambush murder of SAPD Det. Benjamin Marconi

SAN ANTONIO– Police have made an arrest in the murder of San Antonio Police Det. Benjamin Marconi.

Otis Tyrone McKane, 31, was taken into custody around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

SAPD Chief William McManus said that McKane is the same person seen in surveillance footage at police headquarters the day of the shooting. McManus said they also believe McKane is responsible for the shooting death of Det. Marconi.

Marconi was shot twice in the head while sitting in his patrol car outside of police headquarters late Sunday morning. He was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

McManus said McKane was picked up Monday afternoon while traveling with a woman and a 2-year-old child. He was taken into custody without incident near an overpass at Interstate 10 and FM 1516 in far east Bexar County, near Converse.

Marconi was a 20-year veteran of the department. McManus said they have not yet been able to establish a motive in the shooting.
